Michigan Football

Michigan Football will open the season on the road for the first time since 1998 against a tough University of Utah team September 3rd.

Jim Harbaugh’s first home game as the University of Michigan’s head coach will take place against another Pac-12 opponent in Oregon State on September 12th.

One of the big questions to be answered as practices start this week, is who will be the Wolverine starting QB this season. Many feel that Iowa transfer Jake Rudock will end up under center while others think Shane Morris, Alex Malzone, or Zach Gentry will win the job.

A Sonic Lunch Fit For A King (Luke Winslow King)

The Sonic Lunch series in Downtown Ann Arbor continues on August 6th when New Orleans singer-songwriter Luke Winslow King takes the Liberty Plaza stage at noon. Mr. King’s Old/New Baby album was recognized as one of the top 10 albums of 2009 by the editors of American Songwriter Magazine. Mr. King’s music is a combination of classic pop with a taste of blues and jazz mixed in.

People Will Be Dancing

Celebrate Dance with the 30th Anniversary performance by the ‘People Dancing’ Dance Company at the Arthur Miller Theater at the University of Michigan on August 7th and 8th at 8 pm. The show will feature dancers from the repertory, from the Dance in the Mitten Festival, as well as several guest artists like Jillian Hopper (Detroit) and Valerie Green (NYC). You can purchase tickets from their website.

When Was Your Last Hootenanny

The dictionary definition of a hootenanny is, “an informal gathering with folk music and sometimes dancing.” Apparently, in the early days of Ann Arbor’s legendary folk venue The Ark, hootenannies were a regular occurrence.

To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, The Ark is bringing the hootenanny back with a full slate of performers experienced in bringing this unique performance format to life. The Ark Reunion All Star Hootenanny will take place on August 5th and feature artists like Chris Buhalis and Dee Dee Palazzola. The Ark’s doors will open at 7:30 pm.

The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase will feature comedian Kevin Mcpeek who has appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, and Fox. Kevin, originally from Michigan, has opened shows for Jerry Seinfeld and Drew Carey. You can count on Mr. McPeek to work clean, so his shows will be funny as well as family friendly.
