Mary Chapin Carpenter and Much More at the Ark

Mary Chapin Carpenter is returning to the Ark to help celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a show on April 29th. She was a regular performer at the Ark in the 80s. Carpenter is a five time Grammy Award winning songwriter who has sold over 13 million records and she is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Mark O’Connor will take the stage at the Ark on May 30th for a night of bluegrass, folk, and classical fiddle playing.

San Francisco’s Hot Buttered Rum, a band that highlights harmonies and classic songs, will perform on May 1st.

Eilen Jewell a young but powerful alt-country artist will take the stage in support of her new album Sundown over Ghost Town on May 2nd.

Marc Cohn, a Grammy winning artist and the original writer of the classic song ‘Walking in Memphis’ will close out the week on May 3d.

Robots, the Moon, and Buzz Lightyear

The University of Michigan Planetarium will present Back to the Moon, about Google’s Lunar XPRIZE which was created to return robots to the moon.  The show is narrated by Tim Allen who voices the Pure Michigan campaign. The show will begin at 2:30 pm May 2nd and 3d at the Ruthven Museum Building.

Free Comic Books

Downtown Ann Arbor is the home of Vault of Midnight known for having the Earth’s Finest Comic Books and Stuff since 1996.  Vault of Midnight will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day on May 2nd.

Jerusalem Garden – Falafel’s on the Move

Jerusalem Garden has been a fixture in Ann Arbor since 1987.  The falafel joint will be relocating – opening its new location at 314 E. Liberty St on April 29th. The longstanding 5th Avenue location will be closing after 27 years. The move will create more space for customers and catering.

Celebrate International Jazz Day

International Jazz Day is April 30th – and there is no better place to celebrate than the Kerrytown Concert House.  Vincent York, who toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and started the Jazzistry educational program, will lead his band in a remembrance of his early career.  York has performed with artists as notable as Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald throughout his long career.

Sports Options for U of M Parents and Fans

Good luck to all of the teams competing this week for the University of Michigan here or on the road! Go Blue!  All of the following University of Michigan teams will be playing at home this week:

Michigan’s Baseball Team plays Iowa at 4 pm May 1st, at 4:30 pm May 2nd, and at  1:00 pm on May 3rd – all games will be at the Wilpon Complex.

Michigan’s Softball Team will play Penn State at 5:30 pm May 1st, at 2:00 pm on May 2nd, and at 1:00 pm on May 3d – all games will be at the Wilpon Complex.

Michigan’s Women’s Rowing Team will take on Louisville on May 2nd at 9:00 am at Belleville Lake.

Billy Ray Bauer will show off the comedy talent that has kept him in the business of comedy for over 20 years at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase from April 30th through May 2nd.  Bauer has been a regular guest on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom radio show.
